Here we are on the last day of the 2012 University Games in Buea. Together we have given meaning to the Games’ Central theme: “Together let’s build a Cameroon of Excellence.” Together we have worked for the Excellence of Cameroon in sports, social cohesion and unity. No matter what ever has been said or will be said about 2012 Games in Buea, one inconvertible truth has emerged, namely, that more than 3600 athletes representing 19 delegations converged on the campus of the University of Buea, competed in all the disciplines plan. Medals were won; the youth made new friends and enjoyed themselves.

Together we overcame the difficulties that surfaced at the beginning. Together we succeeded to restore an atmosphere of peace and conviviality. We deeply regret and strongly condemn the rowdiness , acts of violence and vandalism perpetrated by some misguided UBSU students at the beginning of the Games. These individuals do not represent the vast majority of UB students who are peace loving and well-behaved.

Yes, the Games have happened and the Cameroonian Higher Education family has demonstrated once more its ability to cope with challenges through rationality and dialogue. It is for this reason that I salute all the athletes and the coaches, the officials and mentors and thank all persons who helped to bring us to this stage. Through your collaboration, we have been able to maintain the aspirations of UB as the Place to be. The elephant on the logo of 2012 Games is not only a symbol of strength , it is a symbol of unity as well.. The elephant confidently looks up to the mountain, which signifies hope in our quest for excellence. I am confident that together we can and will win the battle for excellence.

These Games have only been possible thanks to the conjugated efforts of many people from within and without the University. We wish to register our hearty thanks to the Minister of Higher Education, Professor Jacques Fame Ndongo, for quality leadership and for making available resources for improvement of the infrastructure of our institution in preparation for the Games. We deeply appreciate the time the time he took to visit the new Faculty of Health Sciences at Mile 17. The Minister’s visists to this campus as its Chancellor have been a constant booster for which we remain indebted.

Our thanks go to FENASU, and most especially to its President ,Professor Bruno Bekolo ,whose support for these Games went beyond the simple supply of funds. The University of Buea through my humble voice thanks you for being a friend indeed at a time of need.

We equally wish to appreciate and thank the Rectors of State Universities and the Vice Chancellor of the University of Bamenda, the Heads of various delegations and their accompanying delegations for being such wonderful guests We are sure to miss the ambiance when you leave and invite you to visit us whenever you pass this way.

Our thanks and gratitude go to the main sponsor MTN for decorating the campus. The Supermont Company for providing much needed water at preferential prices, Fakoship Company for their financial support. The Local Organizing Committee deserves our praise and thanks for preparing the Games and seeing through its realization. To all those men and women who spent sleepless nights looking after our feeding, accommodation, transport and general functioning of the Games, I say thank you sincerely.

The 2012 University Games happened in Buea, proving once more that working together we can do great things for our country. We look forward to meeting again at other sports rendezvous come 2013 and wish you all safe return to your various destinations.

Bonne route!!
